Gilley's brings the country

Matt West, director of restaurants at Treasure Island, said it best about Gilley’s: “Gilley’s is just an awesome country bar experience. I don’t think you realize you’re in Vegas, even though we’re right on the Las Vegas Strip. It’s an absolute fun, country vibe. I love the line dancing and the live music.”

Stepping through the doors, guests are immersed into a honky-tonk world with Nashville-inspired décor, delicious barbecue and Southern eats, live music, flowing cocktails and the Gilley’s Girls.

Families can dine in the restaurant portion—with seating right along Las Vegas Boulevard South—and dig into Gilley’s eats like brisket, ribs and pulled pork, all smoked in-house over mesquite wood. (West suggests ordering the famous mac and cheese and tater tots, too!) But come 9 p.m., Gilley’s becomes a hot spot for 21-and-over nightlife fun.

Inside the saloon portion of Gilley’s, settle into one of the fun saddle seats or take a turn around the dance floor as live bands take the stage. If you’re not an experienced dancer, don’t fret—Gilley’s provides free line dancing lessons for novice and expert line dancers alike. “Our dance instructor—she works her magic and she’ll have everyone that was sitting in the saloon out on the dance floor and working through a couple of songs in no time,” West said. And there’s nothing better than cutting up the wood dance floor to live country bands.

This week, catch Scotty Alexander on Aug. 2-3 beginning at 8:30 p.m. and, on Aug. 4, the Swan Brothers at 10 p.m. and Jimi Nelson at 11:30 p.m. On Monday nights, Vegas’ popular country music radio station, 107.9 Coyote Country, broadcasts live from the saloon with music starting at 8 p.m. For a more stripped-down, laid-back live music setting, visit Gilley’s for its Home Grown Sundays with Steve Sturgis & The Riflemen; and beginning at 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, enjoy food and live bluegrass bands during Gilley’s popular Bluegrass & BBQ experience.

It’s hard not to miss the famous Gilley’s Girls, who often join patrons on the dance floor during the line dancing lessons, or when they take their own turn on the dance floor for a little choreographed number. You’ll also see some of the Gilley’s Girls, dressed in bikinis, black chaps and cowboy hats, take a turn riding the famous Gilley’s bull, and when they’re not up there yeehawing, they’re serving the saloon’s tasty specialty cocktails.

West suggests three libations to try that will certainly whet your whistle, beginning with one of the Lonestar Lemonades like the Blueberry Lemonade. The summer sip is a refreshing mix of Stoli Blueberi vodka, New Amsterdam Pink Whitney vodka, fresh blueberries and a splash of lemonade.

Under the All Time Favorite Country Cocktails portion of the menu, try the Country Girl Mojito with Bacardi Pineapple rum, fresh mint, pineapple juice, agave nectar, fresh lime juice and Sierra Mist soft drink.

And, inspired by country music singer Tracy Byrd’s song of the same name, the Watermelon Crawl mixes Malibu Watermelon rum, Bundaberg ginger beer and watermelon Red Bull Red Edition energy drink. “People love that song and love to line dance to it, too,” West said. “And the cocktail is so tasty and people love it.”

Tasty cocktails, live music, the Gilley’s Girls, the mechanical bull and a packed dance floor—it’s the perfect country escape, right on the Las Vegas Strip. “Fridays and Saturdays are our hot nights,” West said. “We’re open later, and people are just ready to let loose and have fun, and Gilley’s is the place to be for that.”
